Mounting Valentine1 - any "gotchas"?
i've got to fix a spot for my V1 in my '03 and then have it all hardwired.
i searched the archives, and found some discussion of the EZPass & windshield-black-area issues.
does the windshield screw up a radar detector's sensors? i assume that X, K, Ka, and laser radar guns work at very different bandwidths than EZPass (et. al.), though i don't know what they've per se coated the windshield with.
obviously we don't want to dumb down the detector's effectiveness!
thought i'd ask here first before buzzing the V1 folks.
doody.

Because of the infrared laminent in the there is only one spot in the windshield where it can be mounted. It is on the lower part of the windshield just to the right of center sitting in the car. In some light conditions it is visible as a faint square when looking at the windshield from outsite the car. After my boss got a new S 500 I had to show him where to put it as well as his I Pass (electronic toll device). These spots are also detailed in the owner's manual.

We have a 2002 S-500 and correct on the Valentine location. The rear laser only works however when sunshade is down. Also best place for toll tag is mounted to the sunroof. The metalic coating in the windshield is a great RF shield. The sunroof location does not interfer with operations and has been 100% reliable in Florida for both sunpass and e-pass locations,

Since we don't have laser where we live, I mounted my dad's V-1 (2003 W220) to the left of the mirror behind the black. When I road tested it and compared it to my other V-1 equipped cars, it picked up all of the false alarms in exactly the same spots. Dad also reports that it saved his a$$ several times on his last trip to the desert by picking up the CHP miles away.
