temp gauge

hi,i am new here..i just bought a 2000 s500 designo yesterday and my god this car is the best car i have ever owned, and i have owned many cars from bmw's,cadillacs, lexus, audi and now a mercedes and this is better and above all of the others.

my question is:when i am driving the temp gauge stays slightly above 80,when i am stopped the temp gauge slowly rises than stays there and goes back down when driving..is this normal for these cars?doesnt over heat or anything like that, just think its kinda odd.

get tons of looks and compliments in this car btw

posted some pics of my car for y'all.

thanks in advance.

Yes completely normal

It can near 100 stuck in traffic in hot days and will come down when the secondary fan kicks on or you start moving

Like reported above, that's perfectly normal! I heard from others on here that the W220 engine temp gauge isn't like on other cars. from what i understand, others cars will display the same temp (for example 80) even if the engine is actually hotter, and will only move if the engine is overheating. where on the W220, the gauge displays the real temp.

Like everyone said, perfectly normal. Being on the safe side, make sure your electric fan is working also. You can audibly here it if you know what to listen for or you can easily pop the hood and see. I actually like hearing it when it kicks in, just sounds cool.

Now, Kiss the wife, hug the kids, pat the dog and say goodbye for the day and go clean the car with every chemical you can throw at it inside and out. You can easily pick up some (Silver/Gray) upholstery paint to touch up a lot of areas on the inside too. You got a really sweet car and welcome to the family

Oh . here's a vid of my car before fixing the air suspension and wheel change out. At the end you can hear the aux fan come on.
