SRS MESSAGE IN RED

Hi all,

My car keeps giving the message SRS FAILURE VISIT WORKSHOP IN RED. BUT THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN SOMEONE SITS IN THE LEFT PASSENGER SEAT. SOMETIMES IF THE WEIGHT OF THE PERSON IS EVEN IT DOES NOT WARN ME. SOMETIMES A MESSAGE PRESAFE INACTIVE SEE OWNERS MANUAL COMES... WHAT DO I do for this?

Most likely it is a defective occupancy sensor in the passenger seat. They do go bad, guess how I know. To confirm you will need to get the car scanned with a STAR. They are not cheap as the replacement is the entire seat cushoin with the heater, occupancy sensor, cooling fans....

Is there a way to just rewire the occupancy sensor to make it think someone is always in the seat? That way it will go off regardless? Better than it not working if you get into an accident.

There are some "simulators" on e-bay, but they are vehicle specific. You must make sure it is the right one for your car and even then they do not always work.

@ Corkshoppe: but my sensors come on with or without the belt in place... Do you think it could be some sort of loose contact as it does not happen every time. If the occupant sits in a particular fashion...in this case right in the middle putting all their weight into the center... The warning does not light up. Sometimes an already lit warning just goes away too...

It is the occupancy sensor. Mine acted the same way and eventually just stayed on all the time.

@Dr Matt: did you get your problem fixed? If yes, how did you go about getting it done?

you have to take out the seat bottom and replace the sensor mat.
