car has died on me and now won't start. help us

My car was driving fine today
When I came of motorway the car just cut of while driving. When I restarted I couldn't rev the car or accelerate
I then switched it off and tried starting again. It was cranking but no start.
Next thing it won't crank at all . Electrics are okay
I heard a loud fan type sound from driver side bonnet. Like a loud fan.
What could it be guy's?

I swapped the suspension relay for the one behind it. It cranked but didn't start. When I swap back relay it does not even crank. Fan comes on For some peculiar reason.

I don't know if the cdi uses a crank position sensor (cps) but that's the classic symptom - dies out and will just crank but will not restart

It usually will restart once the engine cools down in a few hours . Try later on . If it restarts when cool its a cps

I'll try that. But why would fan come on when attempting To crank. And that relay has failed. When I put the other one on it attempts to crank. Fan engages every time. Also I realised that the fuse box had no cover on. I got it back from the mechanic 2 days ago.

I've seen a few cases of the fan running at high speed when trying to crank the vehicle but wouldn't crank at all. It was a bad ecu causing it, not sure if it's the same in your case, but try to have it scan with star.

I would try to get the SAM cover back from your mechanic ASAP! If you have to buy one, it will probably be unbelievably expensive...

in most cases you can get a used ecu to work....about 2 weeks ago someone stole the ecu from a customer of mines car w211. long story short i was able to get a used ecu and code it successfully to the vehicle. dealer was asking 2400 usd for a new ecu, i got it done for 1/2 the price and car has been running fine since then. most engine & transmission ecu can be replaced with a used one if you know how to get it to work.
