While riding around in dads S55.....
It was just like the scene from Fast and furious. Dad and I (me driving) are sitting at the light when a Audi S8 pulls up beside us. It was a warn night so the windows and and sunroof were open. I said "hey, nice car." "How much you got under the hood?" he said "more than you can handle pal!" then dad said "smoke him"
To make a long story short we win by 3 cars at 60.
Either that guy was an idiot or he didnt know what AMG S55 means. It was a real laugh.

Right on dude, it feels good to smoke somebody! Yeah shows you the quality of an AMG engine even when it is out powered!(S8 has 360 hp) Anyway what color is your dads S55? (exterior and interior)

It is Black opal metallic, with Java leather and Chestnut Trim. I will post pics as soon as I can but mom and dad just took it for a little trip. They decide spur-of-the-moment that they want to go to San Antonio, then to the Keys. Crazy parents so I have no idea how long I have the house for. Even though my C coupe is at the body shop and I'm supposed to be driving the family ML, I think I should drive moms CL just to make sure that its running good. What do ya'll think?

Hey I think that you should take out your moms CL!! What model is it? (500, AMG, or 600) My dad just recently got a 360 Modena, he had been wanting one for a long time and had set aside some money finally when his birthday came along (2 months ago) My mom had me track one down and we put it in the driveway the morning of his birthday! It was a big birthday for him sence he had only saved about half the price of the car! Anyway they were out of town for 2 weeks and I took it out a bunch! Anyway have fun with your moms CL!!

don't discount the audi!
i'm a big fan of the S55 --why else would i be here? but i'm an even bigger fan of the audi s8 and the tiny niche it fills within the niche of the luxury-sports segment. that is, the niche of stealthy, incredibly capable 4-doors with superb traction in the wet and occupant-coddling luxury. to be honest, i haven't yet had the pleasure to drive or ride in an s55, but i've had that pleasure with an S8 over numerous occasions here in vancouver, bc. my whereabouts might tell you where this is going: in inclement weather (and i've driven the audi up to the snowy, coast mountains on a few occasions) there is simply no better car to be in. couple that with sports car-like handling, a beautiful interior, anonymous styling (good for me, not a huge fan of the slammed-drug-car-on-20's-bling-bling look) and a $20k price diff. between both cars, and i'd gladly lose that drag race to that torquey 5.5 v8 -- which, incidentally, is an amazing engine. as far as drag racing goes, though, if the roads are wet, i would imagine the S8 would be administering a one-way beating on the S55, no contest. the main point, though, is that for those who enjoy the anonymity and rarity of the S8 (A8's are pretty rare to begin with), and if you live where the weather gets nasty, I'd be at the audi dealership in a heartbeat. of course, in a more accurate sense, i wouldn't, as i'm straight out of university and driving a '98 jetta ;-) sorry for the length...

VDBM I totally agree with you about the Audi excelling in inclement weather. Its a nice car, but it was more about the attitude of the driver of it. I just asked how much he had, i never intended on racing, but when he made that comment dad had enough.

Good job to you and your dad for shutting that A8's mouth up. I can't stand people who aren't nice. People think everything is a competition...and its really annoying because i'm just trying to be nice. My dad's CL600 gets a lot of **** from people...but he ignores it and just "cruises" Hehe. Nice job with that S55...beautiful car.

true enough, C230boy, if the guy in the s8 was being a jerk, he probably got what he deserved. goes to show you, you can dress'em up, but you can't necessarily take 'em out.
out of curiosity, for S55 owners out there, when you were shopping your car, did any of you consider the 740i Sport? Many of the auto rags have done comparisons between these two cars, but i'm wondering about real world experiences.

Pkorkis: well that depends. If you will be getting to drive the car or eventually get it then go for the sl500. Although your parents will probably like the S500 better.

I see in your sig that your parents might get you a CLK. Personally I would rather have the smaller engine with convertible than the bigger engine and a hardtop. But, If they will get yuo a big engine and a droptop then go for it. If you really want to be different get a G500, I have never seen one on road.

Yeah, I was thinking about the convertible...but I don't really think I want one. But I still think I will get teh new 320 because the 500 is about 55-60 where as the 320 should be 50. I would have gotten a 430 if it was a 2002, but they raised the engine and price so i think I will go for the 320.
