Blown center speaker in S-500
The audio system in my 2000 S-500 (purchased as a Starmarked car this last December) has never sounded particularly good, and now I know why: The center fill speaker, deftly hidden in the dash just to the right of the "ear" for the park-o-matic readout, has a blown cone. The car is under warranty, of course, and the dealer is willing to pull the dash to replace the speaker, but the though paralyzes me -- rattles, poor fit, and damage to the interior are off-putting to say the least.
Soooo, what are my options? I doubt this speaker makes much difference to the overall sound quality of the system. Is there some (relatively) easy way to disconnect the speaker? Will the computers freak out if this is done? What about a delicate through-grill surgical destruction of the fine wires in the cone? The fuzzy distortion I now hear is clearly unacceptable.
Any ideas, folks?
