Did anyone see the test last night on the Speed Channel? It was tested against the S600, 750L, A8, Q45. They said it took 4000 hours to complete. It really seemed more like a promotion for Lexus instead of a test. They didn't even mention the high spots for the other cars in the test. All they talked about was the Ls 430.

I've had my 2001 S600 since August of 2000. I've been in the new LS 430 and it is is nice car.....the only characteristic it has over the S600 is its grandfather land lubbing ride smoothness.....if that's what one is looking for in the end.

As they say in marketing....the "Masses are asses" That's who Lexus developed this car for .....the asses who have a little bit of money.

Very few people have the disernment to know or appreciate the aspects of an S600......except they may only know it's an expensive car.

I'm not sure Lexus developed this car for someone with a small wallet. While it cost much less than a S600 it isn't a cheap car. I think their going for about $70,000. You still need a good income to buy one. I know a guy who just bought a $7,000,000 piece of real estate & he drives a Chevy Z71 truck. I know for sure these are built for the masses. I guess you can't always judge someone's wallet by the car they drive.

I agree

I agree I think you cannot judge the money of someone by the car they drive. A guy in my neighborehood drives a 94' Accord! I mean comeone he has a house worth atleast 800,000 and he drives and Accord. This may not seem like a lot of money for a house to some of you guys but in Portland (where I am living) 800,000 will get you a sweet house!

Oh, I beg to differ.

Lexus and Infiniti high end models ......89% are bought/leased by people who have a negative net worth. These are people one to three paychecks away from bankruptcy.

Figures on emperical Lexus and Infinit buyer stats came from a recent AMA American Marketing Assocation CEO symposium.

I paid cash for my S600.

But yes, no doubt.......sometimes very wealthy people do drive run of the mill cars.........if Sam Walton (WalMart) were alive today he would be worth over $100 billion and no doubt still driving his 20 year old Chevy pickup.

Lexus is a very nice car

In many ways it will out shine the S series including ride quality which was mentioned. The Nav system is also light years ahead of the COMAND system. But I would still buy the S series myself.. I dont know if I agree with the comment about the asses and little bit of money. The LS is about 62k which is not cheap. And do people who have less money automatically go into the *** category if they buy a Lexus? hmmm... oh well.. My money still goes to MB but I would do S55. Im getting addicted to AMG engines.

If you are in that much trouble, it would be pretty hard to get a lease on a car over 50,000 usd I assume. I come from a well off area, and my area is full of Jewish people who refuse to drive german luxury... this is not to be offensive, as I am chinese, and my family has ever owned 1 japanese car, and it was cause I personally wanted it, and it was a bargain, combined with the fact I wanted to learn how to drive stick ($225, no down, 2 year / 24,000 mile lease for a new Honda Prelude VTEC in 1995)...

But my point is there are at times other driving motives besides how revolutionary an engine is, or how smooth a ride, or confortable a car is when picking a automobile.

Here's my $0.02

If you're going to be buying a Lexus (Toyota)that's around $60-$70k+, might as well spend it on a Benz. Why you ask who gets more attention when you start rolling down the street?! :p nuff siad!

The Difference - Mercedes and Lexus

SOUL- Lexus has a smooth, comfortable and luxurious ride. Unfortunately, for the living, it is devoid of SOUL. MB's did not give up their soul for an ultra luxurious ride. Drive both cars hard and if you can't tell the difference......buy the Lexus.
