Ball joints /control arms
Crank position sensor
Transmission conductor leak
Electronic accelerator pedal
Door control module
Reed valve (water entering cabin )

And it also Depends how early you catch the problem, sometimes a $20 part can cause $2000 damage. Not cleaning the reed valve , which is free and easy to do, and letting the car get water damage can be a $10k repair bill
Not fixing a cheap airmatic relay will burn out the compressor

Shouldn't be much different than the E320 you drive now with the exception of the Airmatic. If you can do the mechanical work yourself, OE parts are plentiful and easily price shopped so ownership should be fairly reasonable once you get all the normal maintenance items updated.
I recommend going to the MBUSA web site and download an owners manual and maintenance guide to get a flavor of the W220 you plan to purchase. I love mine and did a lot of work at the onset of my ownership to get it updated, ie plugs, all filters, ball joints etc. These older models have many DIY write ups here as well as Benzworld . Many great fellow travelers for support!

Just to add my 1 cents worth. I would check to see if the shifter "stuck in park" problem has occurred and been resolved. If it hasn't, it will.
Another thing to be concerned about since this is a model year 01 the "instrument cluster" failure if it wasn't fixed in the recall. If it was fixed the current owner should have the records.
One more is the door lock actuator. These control the soft close and there is one for each door. It can be a DIY if you are mechanically inclined. Just prepared for several knuckle scrapes.
