New S-Class W221

Just picked up a copy of Automobile and it said they will have a MB version of iDrive and a steering column transmission stalk

I'll see if I can scan in the article in a little bit. Nice pic too of it

It is beyond me why MB would trash the euro-gated shifter for an annoying stalk. That makes the car feel so American. Now what am I going to rest me hand on when I'm driving. MB is heading down the wrong road.

they should have steering wheel mounted shifters like some of the AMG's, and have a push button shifter, i know one car has it right now, i just forget, its a very high end luxo car, one of the bentleys or something

Yeah I Read that as well

It seems to me that MB is running out of ideas and starting to copy themselves.

They also said that the upcoming redesign would be a radical change and would be the size of the W140 S Class. This should be interesting!

Yep. But if they did go the route of the old w140, that wouldn't be too bad of an idea, seeing as how the w140 was considered the best grand sedan available and mostly bulletproof too. People say the w140 was the best S-Class ever made.

Think of it as a w140 combined with todays integrated technology

I guess time will tell. Who knows, maybe that steering column stalk is all fake, could MB be throwing people off :p

They should try to make it like the W140; that was a great car.

some of the w221 should take off from the w140, such as the wide body design. maybe there will be a few other things, who said copyin' from the past is bad :p

Not sure if this is for sure but I found this on the net of interior of new S. Hope they don't make a copy of the 7 series, the current S-class has a great interior:
