S430 Engine Swap
Hello all
I'm a new member in desperate need of your expert help
I have a 2001 S430 ME W220 body and i recently swap the engine with a 2003 S430. The 2003 S430 started prior the swap. Now i have the 2003 engine intalled into my 2001 body frame.
I changed the injectors, opened the air intake and have it cleaned. I put everything back together, the engine turn and would NOT start. What did i do wrong? What must i do to start the car now? Your help is desperately needed

iBeforreal.. CPS Would you know where is that located? can I replace it with a new one? I did not change anything. Still using the same wiring harness.
What I don't get is that before pulling the 03 engine out, it started fine, but once I installed on my 01 body frame it wouldn't start. Although as I explained earlier I opened the air intake and changed the injectors seals.
Should I swap all the sensor from the old engine to the 03 engine to sink with the engine controller.

The easiest way to check the ignition is with an inductive-pickup timing light. This is a light that flashes each time the pickup, snapped around a plug wire, sees a high-voltage surge. With such a light, you can check every cylinder in just a few moments, with no disassembly or disconnection required.
You don't tell us where you are, but over most of the USA, auto parts chain stores have tool loaner programs - some may have such timing lights.

Change all the harnesses and sensors from the old engine; that's the safest approach for compatibility; engine blocks are the same, but harnesses and sensors require detailed research on MB docs for every MY.
Good luck!~

@Wally I'm in Atlanta Georgia, i will check Autozone
@Kraut56 Talking about the Harness.. Two Engine and two different harness.
I removed the 03 engine from a 03 chassis without the harness. Install that engine into a 01 chassis. Reconnect the original 01 harness, ECU relay etc.. Now engine wont start.
Are you suggesting that i use the 03 harness into the 01 chassis.
This weekend, i will check the cranshaft sensor and all suggestions. Both the old 01 engine and 03 engine start prior pulling them out.

@USAFguy Swap the harness is a pain in the butt..if requires to change lots of things, both fuse boxes, ECU, ignition key box and key at the steering column etc. Are all these really necessary?

You should be able to check for sparks with a simple tool.
If the car battery stayed connected when you did the swap, the engine ECU may have to be reset with a DAS system.

Good afternoon all
Ok, i'm making progress. It was the CPS sensor, i was able to crank and start the engine. HOWEVER it will not accelerate. When push down on the gas pedal nothing happen, the engine is running poorly but wont accelerate, in fact when push down on the gas pedal the engine cut off.
Restart it again, push down on the pedal softly about 2 inches down and hold steady, few second later the engine accelerate poorly no pressure and cutoff.
What do i do now ?

The "TB" = throttle body, is the electronic mechanism to regulate the throttle plate according to gas pedal commands via the ECU.
It is located right on top the aft of the engine behind the Mass Airflow Sensor.
You may need a DAS system to just reset accumulated (stored) faults.
Swapping engines without a DAS is an amphibious job.
Good Luck!
