radar detector placement

hey all,
where would you say is the best place to mount a radar detector? I tried right at the bottom of the middle of the windshield, a little above the dash so it could see over the hood, but it doesn't detect like mine in my w202. It would either be delayed or no detection at all in areas where it always goes off.

I'm looking to hardwire it (escort 8500) into the car, but don't really want to mess with the panels and such, as my car was much easier :p

thanks guys...hopefully i'll get some ideas as to where to place it cuz i'm travelling to NY tomorrow and gotta love them staties

there is no "great" place to mount radar on a W220, unfortunately. you only have ONE choice, and that's the section near the bottom of the window just right (passenger) side of center. the coating they put on the windshield to block sun-heat blocks most everything else too. there's a trapezoid shaped cut-out of the film there. shine a flashlight on the windshield from outside the car in your garage and the "hole" is crystal clear.

i looked in the manual and yes, it did say that one spot does let transponder stuff go through, and the section right above the rear view as well....the black spotted area. I put it there and am gonna see how it does, if it does well, then i'm possibly going to hardwire it. that's how i have it setup in my w202 right now and works great, can't see it from the outside as well.

would the dealer hardwire a radar for me (probably gonna charge labor)? I did it myself in my w202, but that's much simpler compared to the w220 IMO.

Thanks!
