Upgrading the instrument cluster?
I noticed that really early W220s don't have the capability to display the current speed on the instrument cluster display. Now, that's not worth throwing a huge fuss over, but I'm thinking there could be a really easy way to gain it for not a whole lot of money.
Can you swap clusters between years? Is a 2002 cluster compatible with a 2000 car? Does a 2006 cluster use MOST instead of D2B and therefore won't work? I haven't found much information on that. But what I have noticed is that no matter what year car it was pulled from, the instrument clusters are the same price on eBay, meaning I could buy a different cluster and swap it out for my current cluster for very little outlay.
I'm sure some things may need re-coding. I'll be getting a STAR computer pretty soon so I'll be able to do that, but I don't want to mess with the mileage coding if possible since that gets into a lot of messy legal stuff.
Perhaps I'm making too much fuss about something little.
All the best,

Simply correcting the mileage in the replacement cluster to match the actual mileage of the original cluster is not tampering
