S55 vs. S600

My dad is planning on getting a new Benz S-Class very soon to replace his 2000 S500 and give the new one for my mom. But he doesnt know which one to get. Both cars are very, sporty and eligent but what does the S600(w/ sport package) have to offer that the S55 doesn't. My dad has already driven his friends S600 and said he liked it very much, how different is the S55?? Also; i heard next year there will be a new AMG version called the S63, is this true?? and if so is it worth the wait?

1. Where the hell did you get all those cars?

2. The choice depends on what you're looking for. The S55 is built for performance and has a had-built V8 with 355 hp. The S600 is the "ultimate Benz" and has a 362 hp V12. The S600 has more leather, more wood, Alcantara trim, a phone with voice control, 4-zone climate control, etc. etc.

3. The S63 AMG is not expected to come to the States. Emissions regulations and whatnot. So your choice is still between the S55 and the S600 no matter what.

4. I would take the S600 Sport, but I'm biased. The V12 and added luxury features pulls me in. If you do get the S600 though, make sure you get it with the Sport Package, as you are planning to do!

2004 S 600
I have a 2001 S600. It is actually faster 0-60 than a S55. I know Mercedes says the S55 is 1/10 seconds quicker....but Car and Driver, Automobile Mag, Motor Trend and AutoWeek all did tests and each showed the 600 faster 0-60 usually by 2/10 of a second. The 600 has more horsepower and torque than the 55. I've taken on several 55's and never once lost 0-60 or 0-100.

The internal suspension of each car is exactly the same (ABC). The only difference in set-up are the wheels and tires, 600 has 17" wheels and S55 has 18". I have 19" wheels on my 600.

The sports package is a matter of taste.....the bumpers and side skirts are non-functional. Like me, you can put on your own wheels if you want even higher performance than the 55.

As for the interior there is absolutely no comparison. The 55 interior is plastic except for seat fronts and a few other minor places...whereas the 600 is leather everywhere, ceiling, dash, entire door areas, seat backs, trunk sill, center console etc.....600 has extra wood trim everywhere they could think about sticking it. Plus, the 600 has options galore standard that the 55 does not.

Most important is the turbine smoothness of the V12....there is no other engine like it in the world and it gets better gas milage than the 55 since it has auto cylinder shut-off to 6 cylinders (when you're just cruising easy) that is imperceptible.

1. thanks all of you guys for helping out! the interior information has helped a lot, and am definetly taking everything you guys said into consideration.

2. I dont have too many cars, to of the cars on the signature are future cars, my dad is thinking that will replace older ones, (S8, and S500 will both be traded in)

3. The 4.6 is in "Titanium Silver"; there was pretty much no other choice considering the Black, was a little too plan because you couldnt see the painted bumper, and the Red was a little crazy, on other choic was Estoril Blue which me and my dad both thought looked a little cheap. We used to have a X5 3.0 before, but traded that in too for the 4.6; we didnt even hear about it before and were actually planning on getting the new ML500, but i forced my dad into getting the 4.6, it just looks way better!

4. Sorry guys i couldnt really get pictures, because i live in college and see my family only about every 3 or 4 weeks. I live in Boston and go to college hear, but my family lives in New York! Im just 19 so i am, pretty lucky to get this car, as my first real car... I was suppose to get a C230, but fortunatly pursued my dad to get this beast! (which i must add he likes to drive too, when i am back at home):p . Before i shared an Accord with my brother who is just one year older then me.

Nah, working on these cars, you learn quickly to never trust what's on the outside. People buy C220s and put C43 emblems, wheels, ground effects, xenon lights and everything else to make it look exactly like a C43, but the poor car still couldn't pull a sick ***** off a toilet. Same thing goes with the other models. E320s as E55s, S320s as S600s, '90 300SLs as '99 SL600s, and so on.

Hey guys I have a quesion for you. I saw some pics of a guy with a 2001 S600 next to a S55 AMG next to a Tahoe. Now I know the 600 is for real cus I saw many pics and judging by his garage it looked like he had the money. But the S55 didn't have exhaust tips I know he could have taken em off. But do you think it was really a 430 or 500 with sport package and S55 badges?? Just wanted your opinion I think it was also for real but do you think people would actually do that?

Cheers

Of course people do that, they do it all the time. I've seen even bizarre cars that never existed. One guy made his ML320 an "ML420". I've seen C24 AMGs, S500 AMGs, an SL430, a C500, the list goes on and on.

Actually, the reason why it is not available in North America is because it is a "Special AMG". Only a few have been made and they are only available in europe. The S63, CL63, G55, and the C32 Coupe are all "Special AMG's" and you will not see them in the states.
