Pre-Safe Unavailable 2006 S500

Hi. Does anyone know how to reset the "pre-safe unavailable" message? It comes on every time I start the car , and the only way I can temporarily clear it is by pressing the R knob next to the odometer.

If it comes on everytime, it sounds like the system has a problem. Or at least the car thinks it does. Have anything fixed recently?

Car was repaired after front collision. I tried to get it reset at a local brake shop, but their systems didn't show any malfunctions. Is there a reset I can do without taking it to the dealership?

I would suspect some sensor is out of calibration and needs to be recalibrated. I don't know enough about Mercedes to go into any detail, but that's almost certainly the source of your problem. The repair was never truly completed.

You likely have a issue along the lines of a discharged seat belt safety charge from the accident. MB believes pulling back the seat belt when an accident occurs is a better safety feature than an airbag.

To pull back the seat back in a millisecond it takes a "explosion" in the seat belt box. This is a one time explosion and requires internal repair and/ or replacement of the entire seat belt assembly.

Only a STAR system will point you to which seat belt(s) have be discharged.

If you are in the central PA area, feel free to come by and I can plug in the STAR and help you diagnose.

Mercedes
It's your seat belts
They must be replaced after collision
