Grill Differences?

Is there a difference between the grill on the 00-02 and the 03+ models? What is it?

lip of the hood is the grille on the 03, lip of the hood is painted metal, lol. Basically the 03 grille is taller giving the car a bolder look.

Wrong It's the same exact dimensions grill

What they changed was they cut the bottom edge off around the grill the actual hood grill area was modified to fit the new 03'-04' bumpers. The grill is the same..My friend has a body shop and I got to check an 03' next to my 01', measured the grills and hood.
If you cut the bottom lip off that surounds the lower grill, right where it pinches in to fit the bumper, cut that off entirely it will accept the new 03' bumper I'm getting it done as soon as performance products sends me the new 03-04 AMG polyurethane not (fiberglass) front bumper I just orded it from there new catalog they don't even have it on there web site yet.

Sorry, I have to post a correction

the grill is a bit deeper or longer 1 and1/2 " inches but everything else I previously said is true, the bottom of the old 220 grill hood area is cutt off making way for 03'-04 bumpers. :o :o

Possible to change hood and bumper?

Hey Ricker,
Wondering if you knew if it was possible to completely change the hood and bumper of an '02 S Class to the "04 ones?

I purchased an '03 bumper thinking it will fit on my '02 S55 without any modifications. After purchasing it, I realized that the hood would probably not shut right with the new bumper. I figured the only way to make it work was to purchase an '03 hood and grill. I'm not sure if that's even possible. By the way, THERICKER, how much did you pay for your '03 AMG polyurethane bumper from Performance Products? I paid around 1300 for the bumper only at the dealer.

Actually you took the words right out of my mouth....

The guys at Performance Products, wanted about $1600.00 w/shiping included. They totally dropped the ball, I waited for 11 weeks with excuse, after excuse, telling me on four different occaisions it was stuck at customs.
Then after the last couple weeks they promised me I would have the bumper on Aug 2,04'. So I said "What's different about this time? I'm tired of waiting!"
they said "Oh well this time we have tracking #'s I guarantee it will be here Aug 2,". So I call up up on Aug 2, only to hear the same lame excuse. Suffice it to say, I ended up canceling my order. And Richard the salesman I was dealing with calls me back a few days later, speaking very rudely, and totally out of line goes on "Oh man we just got it in blah, blah, I told you it was coming in today"
So I try to tell him I have the right to cancel if they can't deliver in a reasonable time frame "You told me it would be here Aug 2, that was your last chance"He starts raising his voice so I say " Let me speak to your manager!" The little SOB hangs up on me!!! I called back and left his manager a detailed message, and how I will never do buisness w/them again!!! I ended up ordering the 03' 04' AMG bumper $1472 and the 03'-04' new hood $975 from BuyMBparts.com too my door in 3 days!! Johnathan was totally on the ball... I'll be dropping it off to the body shop on monday, I'll definitely post some pic's when I get it back.......

I hope I do not come off sounding bias......

In performanceproducts defense, they did offer me $100 off shipping! they were charging me $150 for shipping until it got into the 10th-11th week of waiting.
I have purchased numerous other items w/out a hitch.
I was just shocked buy the behavior of their salesman (Richard) when he should of acted more professionally, instead of being impertinent and uncivil.

Thanks Ricker! I'm gonna start looking for an '03-'04 bumper now. Can't wait to see how yours turns out. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

In the S55 forums, I'm very interested in possibly moving up into a 02' S55
and selling my current S500, So maybe you could go to S55 forum and give me your thoughts on my question there. Thanks Sean.....
