knihc2008,
Who thought the S-Class was going to be new in 2003? Did you?
Most everyone already knew that the W220 S-Class will receive a face-lift or a mid-model upgrade for 2003.

The mid model changes are just to freshen the car and to promote more sales and add things to further compete with what the competition may have done during the run.
I hate the new shorter production runs for Mercedes Cars - only 6 years per chassis now.

the car's disguised in loads camo...the auto manufacturers don't want you to see the real thing. i expect the whole hood and side parts to be fake...look at how low those handles are compared to the other body panels! hafta use your imagination to see the s underneath.

Well, the 2003 CLK spy pics where it was disguised, it looked exactly like the spy pics when we got to see it unvailed.
Aside from headlight design and some of the front end, we can pretty much see the entire car.

definitely, definitely NOT a volvo...the door handles are right off of all the current mercedes cars.
and i did hear somewhere that mercedes was already working on the next s at the same time they released the current s....they started to work on it nearly three years ago. they wanted to get a head start to make sure that the car was perfect in 2006, so i'm perty sure this is it.
and if you look closely, every single body panel has pins connecting it to something. every single body panel can be taken off, part of the camo disguise.

I actually don't mind the new 6-year cycle. It simply means that MB can better compete in today's world where there are plenty of competitors out there. With Lexus breathing down their throat, along with BMW, MB can not expect to use a chassis for 10 years any longer.
That's what I love about competition!

I read from a german auto mag that shows an artist's impression of new S. The most distinctive feature is one single big round headlamp on each side. And unlike the new E, it is less elliptical and more oval and upright.

MUSFather I agree the 6 years thing is lame. 8 years is much better. I like going to the 2nd year of a new body then 3 years later something else is coming out. Very Frustrating.
