Things to check on used 2001 S500
I am planning to pick up 2001 S500 with 48k miles on it, pretty loaded:
AMG Sport Package
Parktronic
Distronic
Comfort Seats
CD Changer
Rear Chades
Phone connection (no phone though)
Wood Package (Steering Wheel)
The car looks and drives good and all records look clean (off-lease car from MB Credit through non-MB dealer).
Is there anything you think I shold check or pay close attention to?
Any input will be appreciated.
EDIT: Also how to check (if ot makes any difference) wether its CDMA or TDMA phone connection (no phone itself in the car though)...

I'm assuming the warranty expires at 50k miles, I would look into getting an extended warrantee if in case you incur any problems it would be very costly. Otherwise, everything seems like it should check out. btw, how much are you buying it for?

I don't think there's anything *really* to look for on a used '01 S500. Problems that I've read about are pretty much on a case by case basis...no *real* common problem IMO. On our '01 S500, we haven't had any problems except for the wiper blades, that's it.
But it should be good, maybe have it checked out by a MB mechanic or a dealer for piece of mind?
Good luck!

thats a great deal.
Distronic 3k option
Parktronic 3k option
AMG wheels 3.5k option
that car was most probably a 96k MSRP
I went with warranty direct , I could get a hold of them ASAP, they covered wear and tear.

Hopefully we will never have to use it, but its always nice to know we have it.
There is no replacement for good peice of mind.
enjoy your excellent purchase, and I think you will really be impressed with the distronic feature, it took me some getting used to, I just did not trust the car initially
cheers

BTW, forgot to mention earlier that the car also equipped with Active Body Control, that supposed to provide even greater ride

Yeah that’s the exact one I got:
ABC
Distronic
Parktronic
Rear sun shade
Power Rear seats
Massaging front seats
Updated console with Digital MPH readout
CD changer
and then the rest is basic stuff
I didn’t get the AMG wheel kit I wanted BRABUS rims I’m still looking for them . I love that big B in the middle of each wheel.
Enjoy your car its an amazing amazing vehicle, and fast to boot with GREAT handling when ABC is enabled, especiually with that wheel package
ABC cuts out approx 65% of body roll. and another 10% because of your wheel package, with a 7 percent higher rating on the Laterl G skid test

Disctronic is excellent! I love it!
The other favorite features are A/C seats, VCS (VR) with phone, ABC (amazing stuff!) and sound system is terrific!
The only thing I am missing is electric trunk closer (I don't think its retrofitable though...)

Hey, my dad just traded in his 01' S500. Things to beware of. The electronics system is extremely interconnected. Beware of the dask failing and then multiple other systems failign as well. Has happened a couple times on my dad's car.
A big warning about the extended warranty. What you may not know is that once you pass 50k miles, the next time you take your car in because somethign is up, you will from that day have exactly 1 year left on your warranty. My dad purchased an additional 3 years, however 300 miles past 50k the dask failed. (this was last august) we found out that this august, even though we should have had 2-3 more years of warranty, that the warranty would expire. It's in the fine print.
One could say that it's possible that if you got 3 extra years, that in the last year it breaks down, so you'll be glad you had that many years, but with the 01' S500 something electronic usually pops up. Either be prepared to pay for the repair, or start the 1 year clock once you take it in.

Enjoy the car! I absolutely loved it.

Hmmm, kinda weird ... What kind of extended warranty you (your dad?) have?
According to the two I am choosing from (WarrantyDirect.com or AutoWarrantyBroker.com) it is based on milage and time, but has no other time cutting rules...
Any more info?
