Exclamation Preferred tires Summer/Winter

Hi all,

Just curious, what tires should I consider (in a few months though). I have MY01 S500 with AMG Sport Package (18" staggered).

I tried tirerack.com but there no winter tires for this size...
Should I get 17" rims for winter/snow or some all-seasons will be sufficient?

Please post your preferrences....

Northern NJ, all season tire will do. Best tire is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Their directional tires and stick in dry, wet, and even snow. They run about $230 each mounted and balance on 17"s.

the sport pack has 18" wheels though. I dont see why anybody would need full snow tires, instead of just all season. If I decide to buy a S Sport I will replace the tires with all seasons once they run down, I never really drive anywhere where the snow is bad anyways.

They are classified as ultra high performance all season, and can be had from 16" to 20". I run them in all weather, and they're really good. Even going up 10th Avenue in NYC at 4:00 in the morning in a snow storm this past winter, not a problem.

if you want to go with separate winter tires, i had Pirelli 240 Snow Sports on my car last winter and was very impressed with how they performed.

their tire rack ratings are quite good, and they apparently have better tread life than the blizzak's.

if you search this board and the S55 board for snow tires you'll see all sorts of discussion on this topic.

Actually I was just looking at those Continental ContiExtremeContact (275/40-18 and 245/45-18)

It is seems like for Ultra High Performance All-Season that should be allright for snow besides Continental ContiExtremeContact,
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S also would work (for $400 more )

Is anyone could give some feedback for these two tires?
Continental ContiExtremeContact
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

Here is the tire rack owners survey link:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS

I had the continentals and would never buy them again. They got really choppy (dealer's assessment) around 15000 miles, and the car vibrated heavily starting around 70 mph. I brought it to the dealer cause I thought I had bent a rim. Dealer told me to get the Michelins...

I've got Michelin's on the Lexus, on my BMW 5, and the Merc S; all goodness.

Thanks for advise...

The only problem here for S500 Sport package is that tirerack (probably the biggest tire seller) has only two tires listed that capable of snow handling - Continental ContiExtremeContact and
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

And I also heard some not-so-good notes about Conti's from W211 forum...
