I would suggest that you wait for few more months. The next gen S class will probably come out sometime in Sept. If you like it, then go ahead and buy it (the W220 is 6 years old already !!), otherwise, chance is by then you can get a new W220 with heavy discount.
* CL insurance run about 30% higher than S (at least, according to Mercury)
* The only package, I think worthy, is a sport package. Used S with sport package have similar higher value than comparable ones w/o as much as the new one run, so it's a "relatively" good investment.
* I think by 2003, Mercedes work out most of the bugs on the W220, but this's not a car to keep for long, the airmatic & command & electronic gadgets prove to be costly mantenance & repair.
* Mercedes Benz of longbeach or Laguna treat customer very well. But overall, it's more of how you act determine how they'll treat you. Having lot of cash doesn't automatically command respect.

really? i thought the new generation s-class is due out late 2005?
UPDATE* recieved bad news right now, the car which was supposed to be availible tommorow got delayed and now we have to wait till saturday

In late spring / beginning of the summer of 1999 W220 was available in US as early MY00 model, if I am not mistaken
Hence in Europe definition of "model year" virtually non-existent (they use body code and/or model number together with the date when the car was manufactured), you can see on some European sites (in catalogs) W220 referenced since 1998.
And in that case you are right - W220 is about 5.5 years old.
But also note, that European cars (well majority of them, including MB, BMW, VW/Audi, etc.) are quite different (many diff. components and diff. equipment yet the same engine/tranny/body) than their american cousins...

hey guys, my family picked up the car last sunday and i must say that i am in love.... i got it from Marcusbenz and hes been the best, he gave me an awesome price and awesome service. i am so glad we got the AMG sport package, it really makes the car.
