2000 Mercedes s500 Airmatic.

Is there a way to actually turn of airmatic from working? I say this because I have heard from others that if you try to lift cars with automatic air suspension on either hydraulic lifts or jacks that it busts the compressor and ruins the system. So is there way to turn off airmatic completely?

It's not necessary. It would be extraordinarily stupid for a manufacturer to design a vehicle where a tire could not be changed.

The only potential problem that some folks have suggested is that if the system fails completely and drops the car all the way down, using the repaired system to pick the car up from fully collapsed might not be good for the rolling diaphragms in the struts. These folks suggest jacking the car to near the normal ride height before restarting the system.

I have never seen a reasonable-sounding rationale for damage from normal jacking or lifting an Airmatic vehicle.

That being said, pulling the relay for the Airmatic pump will effectively disable the system.

there's three ways an airmatic system can be damaged - if the car is started while on a lift , with the wheels hanging in mid air , the struts can over extend . Pull the airmatic relay as mentioned it you need to start the car while it's on a lift

second as mentioned , it puts a lot of strain if lifting from fully down position . Keep the car jacked partway up but with the tires touching the ground when starting it after being on a lift , allow the struts to fill without the entire weight of the car on them

third way it is damaged is by jacking up incorrectly or turning the car on while using jack stands or ramps in the front . Again. Pull the airmatic relay
