clunking sound

hey all,

as i was moving the car into the garage, my brother heard a clunking noise coming from the rear of the car. I couldn't hear it cuz I was inside, but I rolled down the windows and drove it again and confirmed the clunking noise.

I had him drive it back and forth so that I could stand outside to listen for it. It sounds like sheet metal clunking or something like that from the rear left area. I thought it may be the brakes, but am not sure.

any ideas? Thanks!

EDIT: sorry, forgot to mention, it only happens when the car starts to accelerate. after that, it's gone.

check the trunk; there maybe something that is flying around back there under acceleration. happened to me, turned out to be a lacrosse ball bouncing from front of trunk to back of trunk when I accelerated.

well it wasn't the trunk

I took all the stuff out and it still made that clunking sound. It's so weird, only on take off it does it, during driving along the streets, it doesn't make the noise...

Rear differential? I wonder if it is leaking, or maybe its the pinion seal in the rear diff... Definitely take it in...

hopefully it's not anything serious or major, good thing its still under warranty. This is our first issue with the car in 3 years / 31k miles
