Grinding wheel noise

1979 450 SLC
Grinding wheel noise
1979 450 SLC suddenly started with loud grinding noise left rear wheel. Wheel bearing OK. Brakes and drums OK. Found rocks when taking wheel off. Cleaned but noise continues. Its very loud. Worse when turning left.
where did these rocks come from. How can I remove any residual pebbles that I can't see
