Front damper is busted
I read that it might not be a simple air strut replacement, could be a leak somewhere. Before going to the junk yard next week, what should I check and know what needs to be replaced?
This side is raised to the highest.

This side is not, the front is tugged under the front fender
Also google search W220 Mercedes Source Airmatic, that guys has some good tips. Although it does look like you have a bad shock, I would check the relay and fuse first. If you don't Hella relay, swap it for one (Siemens go bad all the time).
Outside of that, you can get a re manufactured shock for under 400 I believe from FCP Euro. Great place to get parts for Euro cars, they have lifetime warranty on everything they sell (yes, including tear and wear items....which is insane).
1) Compressor pump: was it bad? Sort of. It was taking a bit longer to raise and lower the car as usual. Its the original pump so it may be giving up soon. Was it the problem? Not really. I may have to replace it someday.
2) The airstruts? MB dealer told me all 4 were intact and they did a pressure test to see if there were leaks. None. Did the soap and water test above the front struts. No leaks.
So, what is the problem? I still end up with a car leaning right.
3) Ride height sensor: My right upper control arm was just replaced by an indy shop and this happened right after. It started giving some bad voltage errors as per MB dealer. I ended up replacing all 3 sensors from an independent shop. Did it help? No. An airmatic workshop error popped.
4) Brought it back for more diagnosis. My shop said Hard Codes (i dont know what that means) are usually from a wiring issue or something that may cause a ground somewhere. Not. All checked out okay.
5) Its my valve block! Its all corroded and may have been busted already. This is why my compressor is having a hard time pumping air to all 4 struts and it cuts off before it kills itself. As soon as this was replaced my car started to level out nicely. The height was recalibrated, leveled out, drove it about 80kms all were good.
After this was solved, I managed to pick on a pothole which is more than what my left airstrut can handle... this is a different story in a different thread.
Anyway, so far this has costed me $$$$ and I still love my car. Enjoy. I hope this helps you out.
