C32 AMG, Volvo S80T6
26000 S class vehicles sold to date in total
Of them less than 600 are S55 in USA. Worldwide they may make about 1500 but thats about it. The numbers may be slightly off but that is pretty close. They may have as little as 300 S55's in USA.

When I bought my black S55 in March I was told at dealership that 500 2002 S55's were made and only 50 found there way to the States. I am not certain of the credibility factor of this info but have found nothing to dispute it. Howener, I have not been able to confirm it. Europe and Japan were mentioned as the biggest markets. Cool ride huh? Told my wife today, haven't seen another one on the road although I'm sure their out there.

S55...
When I bought my S55 in March, I was told by my dealer that there were about 5000 built each year. I don't know how true any of this is, but at the time I purchased mine (which I ordered in January), there were 5 others on the ground in Georgia that I was able to locate. My dealer took delivery of two in March and will have more in April. My take on the subject is that this is a indeed a novel automobile, but the marketing spin that there are as few as 500 in a market as important as the United States is far fetched. What better way to keep getting a premium price than to establish that 1) everybody wants one and 2) there aren't enough to go around. I admit it...I was happy to take the bait!

How many S class...............
As many as they can sell.......Dont forget that these cars are NOT limited production and MB will make as many or as few as they need in any given market place.

DHS,
All AMG modified cars are considered "limited production". AMG produced 18,500 vehicles in 2001 (world wide). AMG has 500 employees.

I find it hard to believe that only 50
Two of my friends bought S55's in Nov and Dec of 01 (MY 02). I would find it hard to believe that I know of two of 50 units in this country. I think about 300 make it here of about 1000 built. But I really am just speculating. AMG is definately limited production and they will not make as many as they can sell. C32 production is done for MY 02 from what I hear and those that want must wait for the 03 model.

The BMW M5 is also a limited production vehicle and Motorsport produced a whopping 2500 2002 models for the US market alone. Only 550 E55's for 2002. I read that AMG produced 3500 C32's for the world. That is a lot.
