fuel gauge
anyone have fuel gauge problems on their S? This is our first problem in 4 years / 31k miles 
when i fill up, the gauge goes to full, then as i'm driving, a few minutes later, it'll drop a little bit, about 1/2 inch down the range from full. Then it goes back up a little, but NOT full. Is this normal or something wrong with the fuel sending unit?

My wife's ML320 had a similar problem. When she filled it up completely, the needle would not go all the way up (maybe 7/8 level). We took it to the dealer and they took care of the problem. It hasn't reoccurred in about three years.

My 240d had this problem =) Its a wagon so the tank is pretty easy to get to. I took out the fuel level measurer (it works like a voltage divider for those of you who know your way around electronics, for example half tank = 13.7v / 2 = 6.85v out) I think it works the same way on the s-class. It had a lot of hairs and stuff on it, I just sprayed it with water and then with carosin and put it back in. Works perfect now

Fuel gauge inaccuracies
Normally, if your fuel gage reads near empty, with a full tank, it is your fuel level sending unit. If it reads between full and 3/4 when near empty, it's your gauge cluster which may need reprogramming and/or repair. I have this issue with my 2000 S500, and after replacing the sending unit, I still have the same issue.
