radar detector owners
for those who have radar detectors in their w220, where do you mount it? I've had luck with the black dotted area right above the rear view...that seems to be the best place to mount it in terms of work-a-bility and appearance.
The only thing I don't like is the cord hanging, but i've ordered a hardwire kit for it, should be here soon.

I had my 8500 in my w202 but I just bought the 8500 x50 (awsome range so far!) so I'm putting mine into the w220. I also have another one which I will hardwire in the ML as well...so I got two hardwire kits coming

I have an 8500 x50 and mounted behind the black dotted area on the drivers side above the rear view mirror. It's been hardwired to the fuse box located against the firwall on the drivers side. I could not find a switched power line in the overhead console, all wires were live or data.
Works really well, don't notice any difference in range up there, though I'm sure lasar pickup will be affected due to the black pattern. Overall, I'm happy with it, and no dangling cords.

did you hardwire it yourself or had someone do it?
I would really like some more information on how to wire it to the fuse box...I was originally thinking of going overhead console (that's what i'm planning for our ML as other's have done it before) but if there is no switched power with the ignition...
thanks man!

I had my valentine hard wired into the car by a car stereo shop. They ran the wiring through the a pillar and across the headliner. The radar detector sits underneath my rear view so it can see clearly out the back window.

my V1 is mounted down in the "coating hole" at the lower part of the dash - which grossly limits rear reception through teh back window 'cuz of the passenger seat head rest.
doody.

alternately, there are "holes" in the window coating at the bottom center of the window - shine a flashlight on the windshield from outside at night - you can see the outline of the "holes".
radar signals and the ezpass transpoders will work through these "holes" in the coatings.
doody.

This is how I hardwired it:
Go across the headliner toward the drivers side A pillar. Down the pillar (just gently tuck), back behind the dash and through a firewall grommet. Once through the firewall, pop into switched port on fusebox located on outside firewall on drivers side. Take your pick on ground by attaching to any of the screws in the engine bay. Good luck, it was a pain...

I put the radar detector in the "trapezoid" shaped area where the metal oxide does not exist so that radar can go through that area. I ran the wire behind the dash board, down the right side, along the side of the dash. I can't figure out where to tuck it underneath the dash though

I popped the ashtray out by taking out two torx screws, one on each side. I saw the wires behind, but none worked when i tapped into each of them...I think I got a bad ground so that's why it wouldn't turn on. There were three wires, brown, pinkish/white and grey w/black stripe.
Where could I find a grounding point under the dash? There were two screws under there, each going into a metal plate, so I figured this would work (as it did in the ML) but it was a no go...
