Airmatic Strut Boot Bellow/Dust Cover
So I noticed a little while back that my right front Airmatic Strut Boot Bellow/Dust Cover was pretty much all gone and was planning to replace soon. However, yesterday I started hearing air whooshing from the wheel over bumps. I have yet to get any warning lights on my dash but have noticed that that strut will not raise to the "lifted" height. When I push the button to raise the vehicle, it will just stay at "vehicle height raising". When parking, that one corner is very low. I've read around a lot and performed the leak test at the top of the strut, with no bubbles or leaks.
My question is, dust the Bellow/Dust Cover solely keep dust/foreign particles out of the boot or does it act as an insulator to keep the pressure within the respective strut? I'm asking this because of the WIS I found, telling MB Tech's to not replace front struts that are loosing air, but rather, replace the missing/damaged bellow/dust cover. Basically, I'm wondering if I just buy a new bellow/dust cover, if it will fix the problem of the strut losing air with no cover currently, or if I need to replace the whole strut.
I've attached a copy of the WIS regarding this.

This is my question too. I have that boot/bellow dust cover separated and now that shock won't hold air. I read that it is just a dust cover and not presurized, but reading this document it seems like it might be important after all.
