Question Run on completely distilled water?

Hi family,

Trying to fix my upper radiator leak. I dont see any cracks but its either hose (with U clip and O-ring) or radiator. I took it off and lost significant amount of coolant. I will replace hose first, but I hesitate to use expensive coolant before I am 100% sure that no more leaks.

So my question is: is it okay to run my S500 completely on distilled water, if yes how long I can drive it with it in.

The mixture is half water to coolant anyway, you can run mostly all water if you aren't in a freezing climate, but there should be a little coolant in there for corrosion prevention functions. I doubt you got the system 100% dry before refilling so you are probably ok there anyway, but yes, fill it with water, pressure test it, if all good, drain off a half gallon or so and add coolant.

either one is fine . Usually Better to use the same color as it currently uses, otherwise if you mix the blue and yellow it will look like green coolant .

It will perform fine but look incorrect to a future buyer who will think you just put in the green stuff

Back in the day we would use a hand pump to pressurize the system to look for leaks. Is that not done anymore? (been a loooooong time since I worked on anything besides my GTO).

Yeah, still done all the time. I'm assuming OP doesn't have one?

If you are near an Autozone you may be able to "borrow" a pressure tester to check for leaks. I imagine other auto stores may have loaners as well.
