Rear View Mirrors
I have 2 issues with the Exterior Rear View Mirrors on my 01 S430.
1. They not longer automatically tilt down when in Reverse. Motor or Relay?
2. I replaced the Mirror Lights but can't get the error message to stop showing up?

Can you adjust the mirror up and down? Can you adjust it in and out? If so, the reversing feature may have gotten turned off. If the mirror is not adjustable at all, the problem may be a fuse. If it will adjust in and out, but not up and down, the problem may be a broken wire at the point where they flex when the mirror folds.
Do all of the LEDs work on the mirror giving the error?

The reversing tilt can be programmed in or out on the steering wheel/dash information panel system. One possibility is that the function was accidentally programmed out. Another possibility is that the shifter reversing switch may be slightly maladjusted. Try holding the shift lever a tiny bit forward of the usual position while watching the mirror. If no movement, then try holding it a tiny bit back of the usual position while watching the mirror.
There have been reports of Chinese LED bars not having the same electrical resistance as the factory bars, and that this can cause the failure warning. A couple of folks reported that adding small resistors fixed the problem - no idea of the values that were used.
