Different take on removing mufflers
Hi,
I want to hear the sound, before committing.
Could I just cut, say, 1" from in front of the mufflers, essentially leaving an open pipe - and the mufflers and tail pipes in place?
That way I could make use of some exhaust tape to temporary rejoin, if I don't like, allowing me time to get it welded.
And, yeah, I know, madness wanting to make a limo sound louder
Cheers,
Simon.

They will likely be a place further back for to disconnect so you don't feel the exhaust pounding directly underneath you.
When I was replacing the rear accumulator on my S55, removing one of the rear mufflers was required to gain access. Of course I had to start it up with one of the two mufflers removed and it was glorious.

Well, when under the car removing those two brackets was too tempting.
30mins had one done and one of the bolts on the other.
The last one? Three hours later it was still in place.
New tools where needed.
With the use of some exhaust tape I held the two brackets in place, and off I went, tunes pumping.
Hold on, I thought, I hear a new tone.
Off goes the 4/4 beat, and there is was.
The beginning of a rasp that, in my mind, is one of the best reasons to own a V8.
However, here's the thing.
Muppet boy here, didn't realise that the pipes held in place by the brackets run inside each other.
- Which means, do I go back under and remove the last one, but leave the tubes inside each other?
- Or do I remove the bolt, slide the pipes apart as far as I can, still leaving the exhaust in place?
- Else its a case of replace the bracket and bolt, then go and remove just the one, further back?
Guess I'll try with each option, and work my way through the list.
Yet I am not overly comfortable with the exhaust exiting under the car, mainly as I do a far bit of urban driving - hence stilling still for periods of time.
Oh, I will take a picture of the underneath - as its awesome to see a car that cost six figures being sorted with one of MacGyvers' three tools.

Couldn't for the life of me get that last bolt off.
Then tried to remove the rear part, and couldn't get those two bolts out either.
Guess I will have to live with the improvement that I managed to get, by accident

If you apply either "PB Blaster" or a 50/50 mix of acetone and Dexron (ATF) every few days for several weeks, you can probably get them off. If that still doesn't work, getting each bolt red-hot, then loosening it as it cools might work.
