2000 Mercedes S500
Does anyone know if it can be done?
If you look at my S500, I have the plain body panels. (non-amg) With the chrome tips that I added, I feel it makes the appearance sportier and resembles the S600. Theproblem is from the side it's obvious that they are chrome tips. Does anyone know if I can maybe cut out two spots for the tips in order to raise the mufflers and the exhaust tips thus creating a look very similar to the 600? If you click my signature you'll see how it looks now. TIA!

I'm sure with $$ what you're asking is possible.
There is a post on the other benz forum about retrofitting an S55 exhaust onto a S430 or S500... He bought the S55 bumper as well as the exhaust. Looks pretty good except they're hanging down a little low.

I was looking for a more cost efficient method. Possibly having a body shop make cut outs just like that of an S600 and maybe raising the mufflers to fill in the gap? Anyone here have any knowledge regarding this type of work? I'd be willing to spend a couple dollars but not too much since it doesn't really bother me. It only crossed my mind.

A bucket on wheels
yeah this is possible to do. In my opinion it doens't look too nice the way its set up right now. Deffinatly cut out some parts in the bumper to fit the tips and it will look perfect.

better profile for your pipes...
I agree, the profile doesn't look so great - nor do the headlight rings
There is a way to get the effect you're looking for. You have a body shop cut the end of the exhaust system off just in front of the muffler box on both sides. At this point you'll be missing the last ~2 feet of your exhaust system. Then you select a Flowmaster or Magnaflow or any aftermarket muffler system that has the look you want and weld one on to each side.
I cut off each of the two pipes that came on my '01 to put on quad pipes similar to what's on an '03. The cost was $350 parts and labor. You won't have to modify the bumper. It won't look as good as the 600 because the arcs above the pipes won't be there, but it still looks quite good from the back and side. I highly recommend it - if you have any questions, let me know and I'll post pics of mine and try to explain it better.

Wassup Arman,
I spent less than $600 (labor included) and replaced the OE muffler/exhuast with a Magnaflow mirror stainless muffler quad exhaust set up with existing OE (non-AMG) rear bumper. Couple HP oomph and a little tone to boot!
PS: magnaflow 4"x 2.75" quad exhaust is indefinitely unavailable, so I resorted to the 3"x 2.5" tips.

With the Magnaflow. Do you hear it inside the cabin during normal city/fwy driving? Just wondering if the S-class chassis will filter out the exhaust sound while driving.

too many to list
i would definately suggest what Sportlich has done to his car..spend the whatever amount of money you have budgeted on a newer muffler than getting your rear bumper cut out.
