M113 Engine Rebuild

My Engine On My W220 M113 Head Gasket Seems To Have Blown. The Engine Was Running Properly
Till I Had Big Cloud of smoke coming out the tail open. Come to find out that the cause was from the antifreeze mixing in the combustion chamber. To Make Matters Worst The exshast gasses were entering the coolant. Which intern cause the antifreeze to over heat.

So To correct this problem I changed the thermostat and coolant temperature sensor. Now I'm working on the cylinder head gaskets. I am all going to Change the timing chain and the head bolts . Who has ever had this problem.?

I have a blown head gasket as well in my w163 ml500 m113 engine , milkshake oil . My girlfriend forgot to put the overflow cap back on . Now I’m going to pull the engine & do the head gaskets , timing chain & timing cover refresh kit . hopefully the con rod bearings are still good being that the motor oil is a milkshake , we will see when undo the tear down & rebuild on my YouTube channel @TheLongRanger55

It makes absolutely no sense to do internal engine work on the M113 engine when you can get them at the junkyard for $300 and just swap it in. Much faster much less potential for problems during the rebuild process.

well I’m my case it’s $400 -$600 for a junkyard motor , it’s also a gamble if the engine is still good from the yard . it makes sense to me to do head gaskets myself because I can do other things like the 2 important timing case o-rings that can fail down the line causing water & oil to mix , and I plan on keeping this car for a long time so it Dosent bother me to put a few hours in & have much more well sorted engine that I know won’t leave me stranded in the middle of the desert

It’s very easy to know which cars at the junkyard have good engines . It’s the ones that are wrecked . They were driving until the wreck .

most w220 do not go to junkyard due to bad engine

I agree ! . it had a front driver fender bender the headlight was smashed , it was there for 3 weeks before I got to it today …… motor was gone unfortunately . but the brake calipers , transmission & transfer case ,rear differential, front differential still up for grabs . I did how ever grab the cluster ha ! Just finished installing it in my 2003 ml500 that has 169k miles & blown head gasket , but the 2000 ml55 cluster has 202k miles so I’ll be reprogramming it when I rebuild my engine or find a replacement with 169k miles or less . I’m still not completely sure if it’s plug & play as I see some people mention the speedometer & odometer may not be calibrated properly, some have said that the mileage set it’s self on some models .so yea let’s find out !

M113 engine rebuild

Just got done with an m113 engine “rebuild “ for my w163 Ml500, due to my budget I didn’t get to put new rod / main bearings / hardware like I wished I could have . I don’t believe they needed to be replaced but then again I never pulled them to check . they passed the wiggle test anyways . Just send it ! , little back story how I got here , my girlfriend overheated the car by leaving the over flow cap off & the timing cover O-rings / head gaskets went POOF ! after investigating I did discover previously unknown issues like a rusty melted AUX water pump . Also rusty main water pump powered by the belt . A bad thermostat. Leaking over flow tank hose behind the overflow tank on driver side it’s shaped like a Y . Hair line Crack in over flow tank at the bottom near same hose connection on driver side . & I believe it’s missing the 2 huge electrical fans that mount over the AC condenser based on pictures from the internet of other w163 models . After paying a local shop $165 called dream cars to diagnose the issues ( didn’t tell me anything I listed above ) they said 7k for headgaskets only but I kindly refused & took it home to rebuild myself for less obviously. I did more then they ever dreamed of doing for less then 5k , I don’t even know the value of what I did but I would say I saved 20k or more if I had a shop do the work I did . Check out my YouTube channel @TheLongRanger55 for the details about what exactly i did, any questions about the project feel free to ask I’d love answer them .
