Looking for one
Chasing V12 Dreams

Hi All,

I really need quite a bit of advise. I have 2 dreams, to drive a car to 1 million miles or more and to own a V12. I'm thinking if it may make sense to combine them into one car. I like the W220 and the W215 600 series, i think they look great,.

But I;'m finding myself hesitating because of the maintenance and lack of after market parts for these cars. I'm pretty handy and would have no problem working on most things myself, I would even be willing to by the diagnostic tool but the cost of parts from dealer scares me. I don't want to own a car that I would have to pay for an additional 10 times over while I'm driving it to a million miles.

Any ownership experiences and advise would be greatly appreciated

I don't honestly think any V12 is a good starting point to do a million miles. It will just cost so much money! Fuel, consumables, maintenance, repairs, everything. You'll spend so much time behind the wheel cursing the thing for the unreliability and uncertainty.

I remember a story about a guy driving on old (early 70's) Beetle 1 million miles. Every 100k he dropped the engine (takes about 20 min. to get it out) and would disassmble and replace all the worn parts. Don't remember the details, but from experience, I would guess the cylinders would make it about 3 times, then be replaced. Otherwise, just replace bearings and rings.

If you wish to drive a car 1 million miles, I would make it something super easy to work on. I don't know of any V12 that fits the bill. I have worked in BMW, Ferrari and Mercedes V12.

I have 320k miles on my 83 745i. But it is way easier to work on than my wife's CL600 was.

I have a w215 CL600 and w221 s600. The only problem areas on these engines are coils and voltage transformers , the rest of the engine easily get 1,000,000 miles. I’ve seen these cars with 300,000+ mikes running perfect . V12icpack even sells lifetime warranty coils and ignition transformers . Some auto parts stores offer lifetime warranty too .

There are are plenty of cheap parts on eBay and from auto dismantlers. You can also buy s cheap non running parts car if you have the space to keep it . Don’t hesitate .
