Replacing Head unit of S500 03 with android

Hi,
i need help in choosing the suitable unit for replacing my original unit (photos attached bellow) with android one,
my car 2003 s500 japan model, comes with fiber optic system, Bose,
is it D2B or MOST?
I need to know if it is possible to be upgraded,
the chinese models recommending to purchase cable to connect from unit to rear amp, while they have adapter for fiber optic but they are not sure if work!
the other question some models had DSP system
is it necessary or useful if the fiber optic adapter functioning?
And if connecting the suggested cable with DSP function my speakers will work fine?
I hope i get some help,

That is a d2b system. Unless you replace everything thats in that fiber optic loop you are not going to find anything compatible for that radio. Im having the same issue and my budget does not call for $2k worth of audio for my third car right now lol.

I have done this in a 2000 S500, and I'm about to do it to my 2003 S600. It's the same process, since both are D2B systems.

Since August of last year, the 2000 S500 (the wife's car) has had the Erisin ES3782S Android system in it. This is a four-core, 2GB DRAM unit that, with all accessories, cost about US $550, shipped. So far, it's proved to be a fine performer. Today, I would suggest the Erisin ES7892S, with its eight cores and 4GB DRAM. That's the one that the S600 is going to get once I get something else fixed on it. Total with all necessary accessories was about US $530, including DHL shipping.

BTW, yes, you do completely bypass all the D2B fiber-optic stuff when you do this. The way to do that is with Erisin's "LMBENZ-6m" copper cable that goes from the head unit to the trunk. Completely replaces the fiber-optic run with copper wiring. All speakers get hooked up to this LMBENZ-6m cable, and the door speakers are powered directly by the head unit's built-in 45W/channel amplifier. I installed an extra amp, an Alpine 300W model, for the 10" woofer in the back to round out the bass response. This works very well.

Note that the factory Bose speakers do require the (in)famous "Bose equalization", known by any and all owners of, say, Bose 901's. Same applies here. In this case, the factory head unit has the Bose equalization curve built-in. The new Android head unit will have the standard flat curve. Therefore, the treble can seem a bit flat. My solution was to replace the 6.5" speakers with some aftermarket co-axial ones (Phoenix Gold makes a nice one, the SX65CX). This brightened up the sound considerably.

Hi,

Yep, agree with @cowboyt a lot have done this conversion, the trick is in ditching the Bose, don't be tempted to use the F/O Converters on Post Facey's get the 6m Cable, and on both pre and post F/L remove Amp and Hard Wire the Speakers.

If like me you have a non Bose Car then it's even easier, as the Speakers all work fine, and Speaker Connections are right on the back of the old COMAND H/U

The woofer takes a + from one Rear channel and it's - from the other Rear channel, same for centre dash except use + and - from the Front 2 Channels, I'll see if I can find the diagram / wire colours, or perhaps Cowboyt has them he could post up.

When wired correctly these are awesome, I got one in my R170 SLK too

HTH, Cheers Dave

Sl600
Hi, my 2003 UK spec RHD SL600 has very poor FM reception after installing a Seicane head unit. The installer hasn’t connected the blue 12V “antenna power” wire, so I’m guessing the antenna amp is not switching on. Can anyone tell me the exact location of the connection point within the car so that I can do it myself and get the antenna amp powered up? The Seicane loom has a purple Fakra connector to terminate somewhere in the vehicle.....
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
