Check your fuses. Yep, seriously; that was the cause of my automatic-unlocking doors no longer unlocking (same w/ trunk).

Its your door control module (the power seat switches in the door )

It’s a very common failure part that affects things like horn , flashers etc . Also very easy to replace

Hey, @tusabes , you mention another really good possibility there.

One thing that may come up on a pre-facelift car. In the case of the wife's 2000 S500, we had to replace the door module, too. It had to be programmed to the car. However, I remember reading a thread on the other forum that, at least with post-facelift cars, that programming isn't necessary. What's your experience on this?

I changed mine on a 2000 s430, using a matching part from another 2000 s430 (same exact part number ) and no programming was needed very plug and play

if possible always check the part number on your existing part before buying a used one to make sure the part numbers match

The car may have any of three seat configurations, with different buttons on the DCM.

Yeah I made sure the part I obtained had just heated seats (not heated and ventilated ) this can be differentiated by three or five dots on the heating buttons

Actually, I think that there may be at least four common configurations - basic (probably very few of these, especially in the USA), then basic plus options - memory, memory and heated, and memory, heated and ventilated. The DCMs shown above appear to have all three options. I suppose that Mercedes Benz would build you seats with any configuration that you want. DAS requires you to input the options that you have during testing.
