I have a failing command unit in a 2003 S430. Unit in the car is 220 827 35 42, and seems to be hard to find used. Anybody have a cross reference of compatible part #s? (or a used command for sale)

Time to give some serious consideration to installing a new Chinese-made Android replacement. Not all that difficult, not horribly expensive, and a huge improvement in performance and usability.

Really looking to keep it simple with a "plug-and-play" unit. I have no gripes with the system when it's working, but that's only about 50% of the time. Unit currently throws a p0000 "unknown" error and freezes. Loses all control except the volume knob.

 

2003 units are harder to find as they were a totally different style from 2000-2002 and 2004-2006

there is one in Ebay right. NOw with that part number you better get it !



As an alternative the Chinese android units are made to plug and play
search eBay for “w220 android” and make sure the seller offered all the necessary cables to plug and play they may be an extra cost

 

i replaced the entire audio system in my 2003 S500. I saved the command unit. it works fine. P/N 220 820 59 89.

I had an entire audio system installed including Kenwood excelon head unit with display and carplay, new speakers, new amp, new sub. I spent over $4K on it. Way more than I wanted to spend but there is not a lot you can do to update the stock system with the optical speakers and I spend a ton of time driving.

 

This type won't fit in the posters car!
