Should I stay away from S500?

I'm not rich or old, I just really like the body style and just the fact that Tupac had it all over its lyrics. I've always dream of having one.

So now I can afford it, at least a used 2000 S500 at around $35K. I still have a small amount left for the rainy days but that's it.

My question is, is it worth it? should I spend 70% of all the money I have into a luxury car that's 5 years old?

Thanks

2000 Mercedes S500
You'll be happy with your decision to get it. Then you can spend the other 15 thousand on a body kit, rims, tv's, exhaust, etc.

if u r going to put alot of money into a car i wouldnt buy an S class mercedes i would buy a sports car (someting fun to drive) an S500 is a beautiful car dont get me wrong my father owns an 04 but its not anything exciting after a year of driving it, what im tring to say is buy an old 911 porsche turbo, porsches r timeless any porsche from the 80's r going to be an awsome car. u could most likly get a 85'-89' 911 turbo with about 20,000 miles for around $40K. thats just my opinion.

I'd go with the Sclass It's not a porsche but....

It's no slouch for a large luxury sedan, and way more exclusive looking than some 80's 911.......Go with the S you wont be disappointed in my opinion.

The S500 is nice, but either buy a 2001 or get and an extended warranty (or Starmark) with it. The 2000 models had a number of first production year issues that can easily eat up the remainder of your money... Under warranty they are just a minor nuissance.

Its a great car and for $35k the bulk of the depreciation has been taken by the former owner(s). Also, you may just want to keep (invest) your money and lease the thing.

Btw, clearly not a smart choice of sinking $40k into an old and outdated '80 Porsche...

exactly dont spend most of your money into a 2000 maybe a 2001 with the problems fixed, but still the same expect to pay a lot in fixing little things that go wrong all the time... Im pretty sure that you would be more happy if you get a S class that has a warranty on it still...

The S500 is nice, we've owned one, it did have some issues in the first year, unfortuneatley, we got in an accident and it was tottaled. I would suggest leasing the S. Spending most of your hard-earned cash on a used vehicle is not a good idea, IMHO. Neither is spending $40K on a used Porsche.

Porsche or Mercedes, both would be an excellent choice. I'd buy a car that's 5 years old. Who's there to laugh at me?

Hi everyone,

Just so this thread have a happy ending, I've purchased a used 2000 S500 and....

WWWOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!

I freaking love it, like no others, I like everything about it which makes it worth the extra cash. Look at it this way:

I would have spent $28,000 for some average IS300, TL, GS300, blah blah.. for another 10 K, I got my dream car, I'm so glad I did it....

So glad....

Well you guys are going to hear from me very soon...

Good for you!! I pickup my first S-Class this month and I feel like it is the best car that I've ever owned. You're absolutely right about chasing your dream car. Good choice. TL's, IS300's are now high school kid cars.

BTW, I get way more attention with my S-Class than the brand new 2004 Porsche I was driving.

The S500 would be a good choice. OH, Congrats!

I think Tupac was reffering to the W140 or R129 lol.

Congrats! Please post some pics when you get a chance. Question: did you consider an '03 E Class for around the same price? Just curious...

S500
Yeah, I actually did consider the 2003 up E class for around the same price but I didn't find any (the car is too new to be found on the used market) if there is, the price is still way high, S500 is my dream car, if I get an E, I'm not satisfied, so I think the S500 was a good choice for me
