W220 S500 2002
Spring loaded trunk

So I have the 2002 model of the W220 meaning the electric trunk did not exist just yet so I have the old manual one
but I have a question, can you limit the opening hight of this as well? Im asking because the trunk in my car only opens half way when I use the button in the drivers door or on the keys, I read a little about it but I only found results about the electric one which is not really going to help me now is it

thanks for response

No possibility to adjust the opening height. What you have are lame springs, and the mechanics need lubricantion. To replace the springs is a tough job (and dangerous, if you don't have the proper tools on hand)

As bamberger_1 says, the hinges will need lubricating - repeatedly. It took several lubrications over several days to get the hinges on my S430 moving freely. Do that first. Then, if the trunk lid is still not opening all the way, you can see if the springs are adjustable - they were, on the 2003 S430. The ends of the springs were threaded.

the pre upgrade models had no threaded adjustments. They only have second position where to hook up the spring, with higher tension. But this is a very dangerous operation, as the springs are heavily loaded. I had this problem once, and even the smaller dealership didn't not help me, as they had no appropriate tools. So I took a stranded steel rope (as a loop) and hooked it up to the one end of the spring and the other end I ran it around a post of my garden fence. And then I put a steel rod in the middle of the loop started to turn the rod until the spring was torn far enough to hook it up to the second position.
