S430 (2002): Key does not open the car electronically, and does not turn in ignition
My friend has an issue with his Mercedes S430 (2002).
Symptoms: Key does not open the car electronically, and key does not turn in ignition. No obvious change. One week the car worked just fine, the next it does not.
Notes:
(1) Check Remote - we confirmed that the key battery is working correctly
(2) Check Infra-red signal using your phone - we confirmed that an infra-red signal (hopefully the right one) is emitted from the key.
(3) Check Central Locking Fuse - we replaced the central locking fuse (even though the existing fuse appeared to be fine). We did not find the EIS fuse (which was the first thing we wanted to check)
(4) Program / Synchronize Remote - we resynchronized the key a few times to no avail
Questions:
(a) Given the above, what could be the issue?
(b) What else can we try to diagnose the problem?
(c) Does this model simply not have a fuse for EIS? Is there a different fuse we should be looking at?
(d) We noticed that the car does not move out of Park even when pressing the brakes. Could this be related to the issue? We tried looking for a Neutral Override Switch to get the car in Neutral, but we could not find it. Does that model has a Neutral Override Switch and if so, how to activate it?
Thank you very much in advance!

- Friend only has one key
- Car battery is currently plugged and fully charged
