2005 S500 Antenna Connection

I work in car audio and this forum has been a life saver for a lot of information already.
Working on a 2005 S500 that I can't find where the radio antenna wire runs to. I have pulled the radio and only have the fiber optic and 2 wires. I have looked at the antenna and followed the run down the pillar but lost it after that. I have looked at any "antenna" location and coming up with nothing that works. All this work for a SirusXM addon
Thanks in advance

The FM radio antenna for the W220 is in the rear glass, correct? This is per WIS. Also per WIS it appears the antenna connects to the amplifier module A2/12, which in turn is connected to CAN B and CAN C. Does this help?

The antenna is correct. I do not know about CAN B or CAN C.

Sorry about the 20 questions, we do not work on many Mercedes let alone have one where we didn't have the antenna connection at the radio.

Not sure this helps, but from WIS:

A2/12x1 Rear window antenna amplifier module connector cable colors:
1 gr/ge
2 bl
3 rt/ge
4
5
6 br

A2/12 amplifier module is under the headliner at the rear glass (rear upper header).

Device A2/13 sound amplifier is also in the system, located in the trunk near N93/1 audio gateway control unit.

The radio A2 appears to be on CAN via lines M1 and M5.

Chris White, please post photos of what you are seeing. From what I am seeing with WIS and EPC, it may well be that the antenna signal is accessed via CAN.

I have installed couple recent-model double DIN sound systems, purchased from Crutchfield, in cars from the early 2000s. The technical support information from Crutchfield for American and Japanese vehicles is quite good. Looking at Crutchfield's site, the 2005 S-Class seems to be out of their league.

Read this to learn about the COMAND generations. The 2005 S-Class appears to use COMAND 2.0 with MOST. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comand...OMAND_2.0_MOPF

Scrub forward to 5:33 in this video and there is discussion about the 2003-2006 using MOST protocol with fiber optics.

Scrub forward to 11:15 in this video and he describes the wiring connections, and COMAND 2.0.

Have you seen this video?

What sound system are you installing in this S-Class?

I doubt that a y 2005 model has a Comand 2.0. It might be any of the various NGT's.

Chris White, what is the VIN of the vehicle in question. This will definitively identify the audio and electronic system.

bamberger_1, you are probably right. Do you agree there is no difference in FM radio antenna implementation between COMAND 2.0 and later NGT systems? In other words, via fiber optic over CAN?

I an not familiär with Comands beyond 2.0. but the Comand 2.0 has a standard coax antenna connection. The newer Comands have a so called AGW (audio gate way) located in the left trunk side. Maybe there is a coax connector there?? Just a guess!

Your car has option 530 COMAND DVD APS which appears to be NGT1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comand...OMAND-APS_NTG1

Antenna function is via CAN to the best that I can tell.

Do you think there is a way to connect into that so we can get that signal into the system?

You need to find out the type number which is built in your car. From there we can check what resp. if there are options for an AUX in. Somehow via the diagnosis menu the type can be read out. To read out the Comand 2.0 the following needs to be done. Go to radio function then press Mute + 1 + 3 at the same time for >5-8 sec. The the diagnosis screen appears. There are some different screens to check the system. However, I'm not sure if this works for the NGT the same way??? The Comand type is something like A220 870 .......

Worked with MUTE + 1 + 3. Looks like its AGW controlled. So would have to say its CAN Bus controlled?

What type number did you find out? Did you check if you may have an AUX in, in the gloves compartment (in the left side)

I tried disconnecting the coax connection at the antenna booster and it lost signal to the radio. So far, i've followed the coax under the rear seat which runs up to the front somewhere.

At least in the US, the only W220 with the AUX input in the glovebox is the 2003.

The FM antenna is the black one that is connected to the AGW in the trunk.
remove the combined navigation and cd changer units, you will see the amp and AGW. there are 2 antennas going into the AGW. The one closer to the floor and black in color is FM.
Ok?
