Need help with my headlights (W220)
Hi, I want to start by thanking this forum for the many tips and helpful threads I have been using the last couple of months after I bought my Mercedes S320 1999 w220.
Now, the problem. The headlights on my w220 are yellowed quite a bit and I have been thinking about polishing them but they are also quite dark/black and I haven't found many other lights looking like this and wondered if polishing is the solution or if I'm better of replacing them.
The best picture I have of my headligth that shows the dark/black area

Maybe some pics would help. If it's just hazing on the outer lens, you can just polish and seal.

What you have is just normal Xenon, not Bi-Xenon as tusabes posted. These won't fit. Polishing etc. has one issue, to reseal the lenses after disassembly. Better to find a pair and swap them.

Do you mean polishing the reflectors? Because I don’t think I need to disassemble the headlights to polish the lenses which was what I was thinking.

I replaced the reflectors from theretrofitsource.com and replaced the lenses with a pair from china. They are a bit smaller/thinner plastic than the OEM lenses, but they were also $60 shipped from China, and so far have done their job well.
The headlights now are amazing.

just curious but did you get the updated (clear) lenses and what did you have to start with. Don't know how much the light changes from the old lenses to the new.

Clear lenses only work for Bi-Xenon, you don't have. A plug&play replacement xenon to bi-xenon is not easily possible

Do the lenses not fit physically, because they look pretty similar fitment wise, or is it that the light scatters differently? Because I keep seeing these sellers advertising that the clear lenses fit cars from 1998 to 2005 with OEM halogen lights.

As I understand it, it's not that hard but takes a bit of time and effort:

the lenses fit physically , but without the fluted reflector lens the light pattern will be horrible . Plus your silver reflector inside is damaged . Changing both the reflector and lens makes no sense , just buy used oem lights In good condition if budget matters , or the new DEPO lights I showed you

I had the same problem on two W220's.
1.) 2000 S500 (factory xenon, the wife's car)
2.) 2003 S430 (factory halogen, "my" car)
In both cases, I replaced the headlight assemblies with new Depo models, with the xenon (HID) option. They are plug-and-play, and furthermore, the Depos are the only aftermarket ones that have the auto-leveling motor that you see when you start the car. The Depos are made well and are of high quality, so much that I also put a set on Dad's car (2000 S430, factory xenon).
Note that the Depos are single-xenon projectors, as Depo's goal was to replicate the factory as close as possible while using projectors. I converted one set to bi-xenon, specifically the wife's 2000 S500, using Morimoto's E46-R projector and Osram HID bulbs. Yes, I wired up the bi-xenon solenoid as well. She is burning vampires at night with her car. :-)
Note also that if your car is a post-facelift model that came with bi-xenons, you'll need the bi-xenon option due to the different plugs and slightly different wiring. Just slightly, but it's enough. If you use a modded single-xenon pair of Depos like I did with the S500, then that wiring difference can be accounted for with a little custom wiring, though, which isn't that hard to do, just kinda tedious. I'm currently working on that now with our S600 TT, which is a bi-xenon factory model.
