Issue with fiber optic loop for audio/navigation/sat radio
Issue with fiber optic loop for audio/navigation/sat radio
I had the screen replaced on my command unit and reinstalled it. The battery died during the three weeks it took to get my command unit back. I Replaced and reinstalled the command unit. It turns on and says system unavailable then shuts off. When i unplug the optic link from the bose amp, and turn the head unit back on, i do get a red blinking signal before the unit shuts off. So I plugged that link back into the amp. There is some sort of box right next to the amp that had an optical link so I unplugged it and turned on the command unit and it also had a blinking red signal. I unplugged the satellite optical link and it also had a blinking red signal. I did.the same for the cd changer and the navigation unit and they both had no blinking red signal. I purchased some optical bypass loops and connected them to the optical links for both the changer and nav unit. I turned on the command unit and it still shuts down shortly after being turned on. I did use a volt meter to ensure that power is being delivered to the satellite, nav, and cd changer and the results were 12v + in all cases. I am at a loss as to why there is no red blinking signal coming from the optical links for the nav or cd changer. Is there something else in the optical loop that i should check? I am a loss. The only other thing to mention is that the instrument cluster is flashing between SRS issue and teleaid issue.... prior to removing the command unit for repair the radio and cd and cd changer worked fine. The navigation unit turned on but the disk didnt work.
Any help would me much appreciated. Michael

Did you recharge the dead battery? If not it looks like a low battery capacity. In that case many of the so called comfort features just turn off to save energy, one of the first functions disappearing is the Comand system. Additionally you will collect many of useless failure reports in the fault memory
"It turns on and says system unavailable then shuts off."
Mine did the same thing when I had a break in the fiber (I inadvertently crossed some of the fiber wires when I installed a CD Player), so I expect that you also have a break in your fiber network. When you replaced your Command screen, I assume that you only had to disconnect the fiber at the rear of your Command so that is where I would look. It sounds like you also disconnect items in the trunk (satellite, nav, CD player) so that area is also now suspect.
The first thing I would do is make sure the Command fiber plug is fully inserted and that the wires are not crossed. Then I would go to the trunk. My issue was in the trunk and to fix mine, I disconnected the NAV, SAT Radio and CD player and then found the one fiber that flashed when the power was turned on. At that point I had the one flashing fiber and then one other fiber that went back into parts unseen in the car (components that I hadn't originally disturbed). I connected these two fibers and checked the Command and it was working. Then routed theNAV, SAT Radio and CD player comments in the chain and all was well.
