Low oil level indicator way off,is it normal?

So after oil change,8.5 added check through cluster car off shows 6.8-7 quarts max. But is this really normal?Ive read through posts and seems many have this dangerous issue. And that it’s not the sensor bad it’s like this from
the factory.Checking it with engine cold in the morning and after oil hot same thing. It’s off by 1.5 quarts. Even if we account for filter and little bit in the heads, this is still not good. Can’t be trusted and a worthless mb technology. If that’s not enough well I did a test. Too find out I needed oil I had to check it,No warnings that I needed it. So what I just did was attempt to see how Inaccurate this thing is,,why I did this was because this system is warning me when I’m atleast 1 quart short, maybe even more. not quarter or half but a whole quart and only doing it if I ask it. I didn’t feel safe going 110mph on freeway with a quart or more missing,so

I drained half quart started car no triggered warnings oil level ok.
Drained another half same exact outcome level ok,drained another half,no warnings let car run for about 10 minutes nothing. Drove it around few minutes nothing. I checked level through cluster and it said add oil. Now I used the cluster after each drain and no warning and it took checking it to Find out I’m low.. But it took quart and half to say this and I had to check the level to know this. No low oil warning red light no buzzing nothing. And it took a whole quart and half to tell me it is and with that much oil missing didn’t trigger some kind of warning. Poured all the oil back in and added extra quart and Level said OK.I left it in there.

Ive read some posts that say it’s normal for cluster to be off by quart. Is this true?
I change the oil for people on their Benze and there’s been times I’ve got way less then what shoulda come out and they said they didn’t have any alerts. Mind you most of these people don’t have a stick and can barely put gas in their car let alone check cluster for level. So this is not isolated to my s500.Has anybody ever seen a oil warning light come on or a message pop up in theirs?I do have a stick and will stick with that route but I don’t even trust that either, cause it was at max level when I only had 7.5 quarts in. My Bmw has similar system but it goes off warning you. And even the Beemer warning message won’t go off unless it’s at or over a quart. That car has no stick uses oil and I just add extra quart if warning Alerts. Atleast it warns me,but they sealed it so you can’t check oil or atf on bmw. I’m thinking they don’t want us to check our oils, they go out of their way to seal things so we don’t but no effort into helping us check it. Now I’m talking about bmw obviously. Bmw now uses plastic oil pans. It’s like they want engine damage to occur due to low sales and cars lasting too long. Why make it so hard to Check condition of our cars blood. I think newer Benze still have atf and engine oil sticks?

Anyways I’m looking to see any input is this known to be off a quart
Is a warning supposed to go off automatically or do you really have to check your oil to get this info

Im going to start putting an extra quart 9.5 in the 500 at oil changes and when cluster says low level it will get 2 quarts. This is unacceptable I mean was it that hard for the Germans to use a indicator level that shows 1/4,1/2,3/4 1 quart low and same thing over full.
I know a quart low in the 500 is not gonna kill it but had it been under warranty and had a blackbox like newer cars and they hooked up their machine and it said piston 1 destructed when oil level was short a quart We’d Be paying for the engine not MB or dealer.

Sorry for long post...

Yes there are many reports the dash oil level check is not accurate . It is not always off by one quart though . and for some people it is accurate while for others it isn’t .

If you have a dipstick double check using dipstick .

recently my cluster said i needed to add a quart of oil, so i did, my car screeched when i started it and a big flume of smoke came out of the exhaust, i took it to dealer for and oil change and they said hardly nothing came out, car seemsbetter now,but sometimeswhen i star car you can see smoke in the garage, i hope i haven't lost my motor. i did order a dip stick, i think everyone should have this as first option to check and the cel as a second. i just hope i havn't lost my motor.

They are totally inaccurate.
Mine shows 6.6L in the secret display when it has 8.5L in it.
If you use a dipstick the correct range is 120max/90min.
