S Class for 2003
From what I hear, besides the minor changes to the exterior, there will be 4matic availalbe plus SBC braking and DVD-based comand. Does anyone know about the changes to the interior of the car as yet?
Thanks,
Sean

Changes that I have heard about:
Door sills, bumpers and wheels may be changing.
Interior gets better quality plastics, and DVD.
Braking will be SBC
4matic an option

Minor updates to front and rear bumpers. New wheels. Pictures of the updated S class are on the net.
I doubt there will be SBC. No DVD. 4matic will be an option. And i think projection headlights.

Hrm I thought DVD was going to be on the S class when they put in the new version of COMAND on the next gen S class.
oh well, time will tell.
And as the old saying goes, sales managers don't really know crap heh. I trust german fan sites more than the stealership.

I believe it is called Comand II. It will be availalbe only on the 2003 models, but of course 2003's are available by October of 2002 generally speaking??

Updated S class information
I seriously doubt they will add the DVD and the new COMAND in the updated S class. It will just require too much work to integrate everything. Its not as simple as plug and play.
And seeing that mercedes is moving toward 5-6 year life span for each generation, there's really no reason for Mercedes to waste money to upgrade the car now, only to scrap it in 2 years.
The current S class is a huge success. People will buy the car with or without dvd navigation heh.

As of autumn 2002, all 2003 models will be Dvd based. Check out www.mbspy.com and see for yourself.

This sounds sort of strange as Mercedes usually does not switch something like this in the middle of a model years production run.
Time will tell.

DVD Command switch-over
I attempted to get an answer from Mercedes on when the switch over to the DVD Command system would take place. The people in Montvale claimed they didn't know themselves and they gave only the vaguest of answers suggesting some distant time period. I think they are trained to discourage consumers from thinking that a change is imminent in order to facilitate the sale of vehicles already in the pipeline with the soon to be outdated technology.
A mid model year upgrade of the audio system would itself not be unprecedented. The first 300SD's came with a knob operated radio which was within months replaced by the button system.
