A standard OBD-II code reader can be plugged in under the bottom edge of the instrument panel near the left end. This area is the Federally-required location for the OBD-II connector. Most of the auto parts chain stores (e.g., Autozone, Advance, O'Rileys) will pull the codes for free - just drive in and ask (preferably during not-so-busy times).
This is also where the DAS (Diagnostic Assistance System) (the very powerful dealer-level diagnostic computer system) plugs in. Anyone who really wants to do DIY repair and maintenance on a Mercedes Benz vehicle really needs to get one of the Chinese clones of the DAS (usually $450-$550 on-line).

If "...the real thing..." is available, it would be somewhere near $30,000. There are quite a few different versions of the cloned Chinese software, some better than others.
