pads and rotors

just got back from the dealer for Service A and they mentioned that the front pads and rotors need to be done...about 20% of them left. But when driving, they feel just fine, no squeeling or rusting or anything like that. But anyways, I asked for a quote and they said $645 total. Does that sound about right?

Also, common for both pads and rotors to go at 36.5k miles?

thanks

Oh yea. The dealer will not turn the rotors on this car! You have to replace rotors and pads. When you go in for the 45k, it might be time for the rears as well. I almost choked when the guy told me $1200. for pads/rotors/labor all the way around. I could have saved a few hundred by buying my own parts and going to a brake shop. But the first time that they squealed, I would have been pissed. So I paid the dealer.

i'm going to call my independent MB dealer tomorrow to see what their quote is for the front pads and rotors...also I want them to take a look at them to see if it does really need replacing.

last time I was @ the dealer (i only go there for warranty work) they told us the ML needed front pads @ 50k and the light would come in in about 1500 miles. Well, we're @ 66k and the light just came on, so i'm weary of their techs...

Yea they seem to make suggestions to replace a part at the very first sign of failure. I guess that is a good thing, but it can surely cost.

yeah, good to know. they may exagerate a little bit tho (i mean, with the ML, about to be worn out IMO doesn't mean 16k miles, ya know?). At least you have it in the back of your mind that it's coming sometime in the near future but doesn't have to be replaced right away.

I don't think so. As long it is replaced by OEM parts.

called my independent MB dealer...said $550 for the front pads and rotors. That's about $100 less than the dealer. He said the w220 rotors are usually good for 50-60k miles and was surprised that I told him that the car only had 36k on it...

$650 All Around

Yeah, I was told by my dealer that I would soon need new rotors and pads front and back and that it would run my about $1200. I went to the local Auto House type place that has an MB tech and they'll do all four with OEM parts for $650, so it is possible.

I am going to have my next service done there as well next week, so we'll see how that goes...
