Hello Everyone,
I want to clarify my understanding of how the ignition components that trigger the starter relay are wired.
It seems plausible that the SAM (front passenger side) sends the signal to the starter relay.
But specifically, where do the signals from the brake pedal/lamp, gear shifter position, and ignition switch position go to -- directly to the SAM or via the EIS ?
Based on some pictures on the Mercedes Wiki, it appears that the ignition module (EIS) sends a signal to the SAM, but it's not clear whether the brake position and gear position signals are going directly to the SAM to combine with the ignition switch position, or do they go to the EIS to be combined with the ignition switch position and the ultimate pulse is sent to the SAM.
Is it:
A. EIS (ignition switch position) -> SAM
Brake pedal position -> SAM
Gear position -> SAM
Handshaking in SAM -> Starter Relay
Or
B. Brake pedal position -> EIS
Gear shifter position -> EIS
Ignition Switch position -> EIS
Handshaking in EIS -> SAM
SAM -> Starter relay
What would also be helpful is a wiring diagram for this sequence.
Thank you!
