Brought my 2001 S500 to the dealership for TeleAid DeActivation + Delayed Start
I brought in the Star Bulletin that instructs on how to proceed with the TeleAid deactivation … It says that this will take .3 hours at customer cost, fair enough …. $215 diagnostic charge for this, seems steep. Especially when coupled with
another separate $215 electrical diagnostic charge to figure out the delayed start which … I’ve actually seen some discussion about the TeleAid being a culprit for this.
already going to a dealership to pay top dollar for service, the idea of being overcharged seems likely… but double charged, that makes me sick to think about because I’d rather be spending my money elsewhere getting valuable work done for my car. I don’t know .. maybe a lot more work will go into this than I am imagining (?)
I’ve done new spark plugs AND new coil packs
I initially asked about an oil change but was told that an oil change on my model would more than $300 (either $315 or $350 to be more precise), the dealership 40 miles away will do an oil change on this model for $150
(I am in Southern California)
I purchased a new battery from dealership. Last month September of 2021. They gave me one with a 9/21 sticker so perhaps the problems could be attributed to a bad battery that has been sitting around too long?
I was told by the initially service department representative that I talked to on the phone that if I scheduled for an oil change and TeleAid deactivation and came in early enough I could get my car back by the end of the day … but now 2-3 days, with possible update tomorrow or the day after. “May or may not be serviced at an offsite facility”
and I have this feeling that keeps creeping up the back of my neck that I went in there for an oil change and diagnostic and instead of the oil change I am getting double charged on the diagnostic and beyond that I also worry that I will be forced to pay $430 to get my car back in the exact same condition that I brought it there in minus the TeleAid deactivation
until I showed him the Star Bulletin I was initially told that it may not be possible
By the way, in case you are wondering about my S500. It drives amazingly after tune-up, drove great before then. The engine and feel of the vehicle reminds me a bit of a sedan version of my mother’s 12 cylinder 1997 BMW 850 … which is to say, it is powerful. My other car is a Prius. Civic. Previa. Geo Metro. The W220 is the car that spawned my affinity for Mercedes. Caught up with my depreciated dream 20 years later, all that’s glitter is not gold but just got it smogged and registered and I literally averaged 28 miles per gallon on the way to the place and because I know you will question that I have receipts and proof to prove it
28 MPG over 80 miles!*
* (I admit that the route had a significant amount of downhill driving … but still impressive, and encouraging(to someone on the way to pay exorbitant dealer fees, and get poor service on top of it)
By the way, if you are in Souther California. Where do you take your S500/other W220 variant?
