My vacuum pump on my 2003 S500 has died. Among other things, it operates the door locks. My independent garage, which specializes in foreign cars including MBs, told me that a new pump needs to be programmed with the car in order for it
to work. Is that correct? Sounds odd to me. Thanks.

 

The actual pump part seems to be standard in all units. The control portion (electronics and valves) has to be programmed to match the options in your car using DAS.
