2005 S500 (W220) Can only shift from drive to reverse if foot is not on brake

Hi,
I've searched the forums for a solution to this problem, but most seemingly related issues (stuck in park, rough shifting, transmission not shifting, etc.) don't appear to have the same symptoms or root cause.

I have a 2005 S500 (W220). I have no problems shifting from park to drive, neutral, etc. But when I need to shift from drive to reverse (e.g. to reverse into my parking spot), the shifter gets stuck in neutral and won't go into reverse UNLESS I remove my foot from the brake. Then it shifts to reverse with no issues. This problem is consistent, it's not intermittent. Anyone seen this problem before?
